UTOPIA
When I think of the word Utopia, in my own knowledge I’d say it is an ideal, unrealistic, beautiful beyond measure place. When I think about it I imagine a perfect world, peaceful, technological, scientific and danger free zone. This reminds me of two conceptualized series, Eureka and Terranova, both of these series show us the characteristics of Utopia, a manmade but perfect world or area where both innovation and chaos battle.
The thing about the concept Utopia, one can come up with the wildest ideas and create an ideal perfect world but there can always be something that makes it chaotic, you can find this happening in movies like InTime, the perfect word to use for these kind of movies is Dystopia, a perfect world that went wrong. Now in a scholar’s term, they’d say “Utopia is a perfect paradise that doesn’t exist, but which we all dream of anyway. In the dead of winter, we might imagine a utopia full of palm trees, warm breezes, and sun-soaked beaches.”
Design can play a huge role in this; think about it, Utopia is an unrealistic paradise, a dream that could become true, so designers, artists tend to use this idea into producing and incorporating these ideas into things like futuristic, adventurous, fantasy movies, giving people that idea that this could be you. Designs pull people closer to their dreams, like architecture, in Dubai you can find amazing, skyscraping buildings that people once dreamed of, that was first applied through design and innovative thinking. Basically what I’m trying to say is all great ideas come from first hand design.

Referencing
When you try and search the word Utopia and go through the first ten links, it becomes a little problematic. For instance I’ve come across this to find out that you rarely find solid sources to refer from, and there’s not much info that can help you with this term unless you try and be specific about what it is you are searching for. The images below prove this; all I could find was a lot of Wikipedia, and video sites, picture sites and game sites, not an actual reliable site for you to refer from.

On the other hand there are so many different kinds of images you can find through the term utopia, if you had to make an image search you’d find conceptualized cities, art, fashion, design, and architecture. For instance I was very specific on my utopia search, so I found movies like Avatar and Tron Legacy; games, prince of Persia xbox 360 and Total Domination.

For fashion i loved this, the dress that goes transparent when one gets excited, i found this extremely fascinating including the site. Its got that utopian, futuristic feel to it. The first time i heard about this was at inspiration hour at  the college i go to called MGI in South Africa, we had a designer who's in the industry come and share and thats when i came to hear about this extremely fascinating fashion design mixed with a little science, which got me thinking that being great does not require you to limit yourself to just design, you have to put yourself out there and mingle, basically just be unique.
